Yes! I made it!
It has been over a week since I ran the Deseret News Marathon. I have been meaning to post about it, but have been putting it off because I was not ready to relive that moment of my life! But I think I am ready......
So about 2 days before the Marathon, we were up in Idaho visiting family & I got some kind of bug. I was up all night that Monday night just sick to my stomach. I had to be close to a toilet for a few days, I won't explain why, I am sure you can figure it out. Any how, we got back to my parent's house that Wednesday afternoon & headed up to Kileys sister, Amanda's to stay the night (she lives close to where I had to be the next morning at 3:30 am). I was still having to go to the bathroom a lot, but my stomach felt a lot better. I got up the morning of the run, about 2:55 am. I had my bagel & banana with me for the bus ride so that I could have something substantial in my stomach for the LONG run ahead of me! I found my sweet friend Andrea (if you see my earlier post, she is who I trained the long runs with every Saturday morning) & her husband & enjoyed the excitement of the pre-run Adrenalin! We started the race off great! Probably too fast, but it was awesome! We had been told that the race was all up hill the first half, well it ended up being mostly DOWN hill, something we had not trained for at all! I guess the changed the coarse a few years ago----wish we would have known that! However, I still enjoyed that it was down hill, except for my calves were pulsating from about 3 miles on! I felt like I was doing great.........and then I hit mile 19. It was pretty much over for me then! I had to stop & walk a bit before that & told Andrea & Austin to go a head & I would TRY to catch up. I was SOOOOOOO sick! I found the nearest potty & you can only imagine, but please don't for my sake! From then on, I was frantically l00king for porta potties along the running path. From miles 23-the end, there was NOTHING! I thought I was going to die. The last bit of the race was along the parade route, so I have all these people cheering me on & I just wanted to cry & drop dead (or find a toilet!!!!). Kiley was pretty worried about me cause he knew that my goal was to try to be done in just a bit over 4 hours. He saw Andrea & Austin come in & wondered where on earth I was! I cried a few times along the way & told myself OVER & OVER again that I was NEVER going to do this again. I am sure people along the way thought I was some crazy girl for running & crying & trying not to crap my pants! Sorry, that sounds so gross, but it is the truth! I did see Kiley as I was running the last stretch & I wanted to start bawling, but surprisingly I didn't. I was just so glad to have that over with & couldn't wait to get home so that I could have easy access to a toilet! I did the run in 4 hours & 30 minutes. My first Marathon I did was about 14 minutes BETTER! I was pretty put out about it & was so mad at myself, but Kiley had to pull me back into reality & remind me that I was sick & that it was amazing that I even finished the dang thing! I am so grateful to Kiley & Amanda for being there! It was so fun to have loved ones there cheering me on! Thanks guys! It took a good 2 days for me to walk semi-normal & I still haven't attempted to run yet. Maybe in the morning.......
ALMOST THERE!
Please, don't take a picture of me!
I mentioned earlier that I was NEVER going to run a marathon again, well of course I have changed my mind & look forward to running another one, maybe this spring. Karolee, if you read this, let me know the details for the run in Sedona!
Andrea & Austin! Way to Go!
Andrea, we did it!
I can't forget to add that cute little Livy was there
cheering me on as well! She kept saying
GO GO GO! It was so cute! She
also ate my Ice Cream sandwich for me.
Why would they serve
that after a 26.2 mile run???????
